Community Work
Family Literacy Day
We greatly appreciate the dedication and hard work of all volunteers and committee members who help make this event a reality yearly. We value our place on the committee and all we can do to help support this event. Held every January at Peterborough Square, this free event celebrates the joy of reading through storytelling sessions, interactive literacy activities, and free book giveaways. It is a highlight of our annual calendar, bringing families together to celebrate the benefits of reading and learning in a communal setting. The event inspires children to read and encourages parents to engage in literacy activities with their children, reinforcing the role of family in educational development.
The River Magazine
We proudly support The River Magazine, which showcases the writing, art, and ideas of people living on a low-income in Peterborough. Our sponsorship reflects our commitment to broader literacy initiatives by providing a platform for underrepresented communities to express themselves. Each published contributor is provided with a $50 honorarium. By developing community support initiatives, we aim to provide additional resources and opportunities for children, youth, families, and adults in Peterborough, furthering our mission to foster a love of learning and literacy. We thank One City Peterborough for their impactful work maintaining this magazine and other initiatives.
